Welcome!

Welcome!  My name is Joe Pickard, PhD, LCSW, and I would like to welcome you to www.clergycounseling.org!   This site is designed to provide a synopsis of the Clergy Counseling Project that was conducted at University of Missouri-St. Louis. Both the site and the project are dedicated to the hard working men and women of the clergy who give so much of themselves to help others and to make the world a better place.  The Clergy Counsleing Project examined the counseling services that clergy provide to older adutls and their families, often around such issues as depression and anxiety.

Overview of the Clergy Counseling Project:

The purpose of the Clergy Counseling Project was to learn more about the counseling that clergy do with older adults and their families. We used a mailed survey to ask clergy in St Louis City and County basic demographic questions about themselves and their congregations; we asked about their training and preparation; we asked about their knowledge of and attitudes toward older adults and mental illness. All information provided was kept strictly confidential, and respondents were anonymous.

For information on how we administered the survey, a copy of the survey itself, and some selected results, please click on the tabs at the top of this page.

Thank you for visiting, and if you have any further quesitons, please contact me!
